Administrator
An administrator is the person appointed by a court to manage a deceased person's estate when there is no will, or when the executor named in the will cannot serve. The administrator does the same job as an executor — gathering assets, paying debts, and distributing what is left — but they were chosen by a court rather than by the person who died. Having a current will that names an executor protects your family from needing to go through this court process.
