Joint Tenancy

Joint tenancy is when two or more people own property together with the right of survivorship — meaning when one owner dies, their share automatically passes to the surviving owner without going through a will or probate. Common for married couples owning a home. Important: this overrides your will for that asset.

In short

Joint tenancy means when one owner dies, the survivor automatically gets full ownership — no will or probate needed. This overrides whatever your will says about that asset.
